Snapshots

A snapshot is the raw query results for each ticked server and comparison, captured at a point in time.

Taking a snapshot

On the Compare tab, tick the servers you want, choose All comparisons or Selected comparisons as you would for a live comparison, then select Snapshot. You are asked where to save the file. The queries run in parallel across the servers.

The snapshot is saved as a .afd file. You choose the location yourself; there is no managed snapshot folder, so keep the files wherever suits your own record-keeping.

Loading a snapshot

Select Load and choose a snapshot file, or pick one from the recent list if you have taken one recently. You are then offered three ways to use it:

• View only: show the saved data as it was captured, with no live query.
• Same servers: re-query the servers the snapshot was taken from, and compare live against the snapshot.
• Selected servers: re-query whichever servers you have ticked now, and compare against the snapshot.

Managing snapshot files

Nothing is deleted or expires automatically. Snapshot files are yours to manage on disk. The only thing that is capped is the recent-snapshots list on the Load dropdown, which shows the 10 most recent by default.
